Benefits of Good Air Conditioning

Benefits of Using an Air Conditioning Unit

There are some places on earth situated in a grand desert and tropical areas where you find it very hot to live in. But how do these people, living in those areas, survive throughout the year? The answer is AC or Air Conditioner. People living in those areas find thermal comfort by cooling themselves using air conditioners. But aside from that, there are tons of benefits if you are using AC, and here are some of them:

  • No heat exhaustion

Heat exhaustion is also known as the precursor of heatstroke to an individual who has been exposed to heat for a very long time or even for a shorter period but the temperature is too high for the body to handle. Flushed appearance of the skin, very red cheeks, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive sweating, muscle cramps, and fainting are signs of having heat exhaustion. Heatstroke, on the other hand, is associated with seizures, convulsions, and even death as the worst-case scenario. With the help of an air conditioner, a lot of lives were saved. Heat exhaustion and heat strokes are prevented especially for those children, elderly people, and persons with disabilities who are stuck at home during summer days or even not summer days but are situated in a desert or tropical area.

  • Dehydration is prevented

A lot of people may think that only during summer or maybe after strenuous activities can dehydration occur. But what about those people who are sitting at home but on medications that cause them to excrete more water? They too can suffer dehydration. Psychiatric drugs and blood pressure medications can cause dehydration because most of those drugs are diuretics. The meds pull fluid away to lower the blood pressures. These people are prone to heat exhaustion and dehydration so a unit of AC can eliminate those unwanted situations.

  • Cleaner air

Another purpose of the AC is to produce cleaner and fresher air after cooling since there are a lot of people who are very sensitive to pollens, dust, odor, chemicals, and other particles that are present in the air. Most of them suffer from allergy responses such as asthma attacks and other life-threatening conditions.

Air pollutants and contaminants are unwanted airborne constituents that may reduce the acceptability of air. The number and variety of contaminants in the air is enormous. Some contaminants are brought into the conditioned space from outside, and some are generated within the space itself and they are often labeled as carcinogenic, fatal to humans, life threatening and annoyance.

So, AC for them is not just to provide thermal comfort but rather a lifesaver. Through this, they can live their lives without thinking about those kinds of things that could be fatal to them. Air conditioners have filters indoors that trap dust, pollen, and other particles as air circulates through.

  • Reduce moisture or humidity

Humidity can cause more than just frizzy hair. Molds, mildews, and other health problems can occur in high humidity as well. Mold growth is fueled by moisture vapors in the air. The more moisture in your home the higher the humidity level. And keeping humidity levels relatively low is the only way to inhibit mold growth. Some surprising factors you may not even be aware of such as doing laundry, watering your indoor plant, and even showering can contribute to humidity. Unsealed windows and poor ventilation are also factors. High humidity can also cause serious property damage and the presence of large numbers of dust mites. Molds can produce allergens, irritants, and toxic substances known as mycotoxins. These can cause hypersensitivity pneumonitis, a disease that resembles bacterial pneumonia.

Air conditioner reduces the humidity in the air, especially in hot humid areas. These ACs will try to dry the air a little bit so the inside of the house won’t be having mold growth.

  • Fewer insects

Mosquitoes carry a lot of diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. Plus, nobody loves them. Kissing bugs can also spread the parasite T. cruzi to humans that would cause a disease called Chagas disease.

These insects love the warm atmosphere. They also love your body since it’s warm and very desirable for them. Having Ac in your house reduces insect infestation since your home and body are cooler and is less desirable.

  • Reduce stress

When you are experiencing too much heat, you find yourself feeling uneasy and stressed. Sweat is all over you, you have greasy hair, high body temperature, and your thirst activates. In short, your body works twice harder than your normal days. If you want to study, work, or even try to take a nap, you won’t have that focus and comfort to go on. You are so stressed that all you can think about is how hot it is.

But if you are living somewhere with an air conditioner, even during hot summer days, you’ll find yourself calm and easy. No greasy hair and oily face. Plus, you’ll have that focus and comfort to study, work, and yes, you can sleep better.

  • Prevents electronic devices from overheating

AC is very essential for those who have electronic devices at home or any office since AC is the best way to eliminate them from overheating. Electronic devices need energy either from batteries or electricity to function well. And since energy is present, heat is generated as well that is why most of these devices have cooling systems inside. But these cooling systems are not enough to save the device itself. If you are familiar with PC modification where they modify the cooling system of their PC for better cooling, it is a thing in tropical and desert countries. But during hot summer days, your PC or any devices can still suffer from overheating and you don’t want that! That is why AC is the best solution.

  • Makes your cells age slower

You read it right. AC does make your cells age slower. How? Well, let us then enumerate some of the reasons why cells age faster.

  • UV rays – The very number one reason why cells age faster is from exposure to UV. UV rays destroy the collagen and impair the synthesis of the new collagen. It also attacks our elastin and will make our skin wrinkled and loosed. Closed doors and rooms prevent UV radiation from entering and damaging our skin and health in general. Especially during midday, it is nice to stay at home, close all windows and doors, turn on your AC and cool off yourself.
  • Air pollution – can cause major diseases such as heart disease, brain damage, respiratory damage. Also, free radicals in the air can accelerate the aging process.
  • Stress – Produces freer and freer radicals
  • Heat – Can generate more free radicals
  • Lack of sleep – Your other cells need to rest like your voluntary muscle cells and others need to repair what’s been damaged. To repair that effectively, your cells need you to be asleep to cope up.

Free radicals are the products of normal cellular metabolism. A free radical can be defined as an atom or molecule containing one or more unpaired electrons in a valence shell or outer orbit and is capable of independent existence. Because of their high reactivity, they can abstract electrons from other compounds to attain stability. Thus, the attacked molecule loses its electron and becomes a free radical itself, beginning a chain reaction cascade that finally damages the living cell.

Of course, there are other factors such as sugar, lifestyle, alcohol, etc. But above mentioned are one of the common causes that can be prevented if you are using Air Conditioners.
